Man remains hospitalized following Waikoloa stabbing
A 35-year-old Waikoloa man is facing attempted murder and burglary charges in connection with a Thursday evening stabbing in Waikoloa.
Joel H. White was charged Saturday evening with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree burglary, according to the Hawaii Police Department. His initial court appearance was slated Monday.
White was arrested Thursday evening after police responded at 6:48 p.m. to a residence on the 1600 block of Malie Street, according to police. A 20-year-old man was apparently stabbed during the incident and was bleeding from his neck.
Responding officers located the man who had multiple wounds to his torso and throat, according to police. He was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital.
Investigation revealed that the suspect, who was an acquaintance of the victim, went to the victim’s house and the two got into an altercation, according to police. The victim was cut with a sharp object and then ran to another house nearby.
At 11:05 a.m. Saturday, detectives charged him with attempted second-degree murder and first-degree burglary, according to police. His bail was set at $275,000.
The victim remains hospitalized for treatment of his injuries.
