Man remains in custody following Honaunau shooting
Big Island police have initiated an attempted murder investigation in connection with a shooting Thursday evening in South Kona.
At 6:35 p.m. Thursday, Kona Patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 83-5300 block of Highway 11 in Honaunau, near the highway’s intersection with Middle Keei Road.
At a house being rented to several tenants, police found a 52-year-old resident with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, according to the Hawaii Police Department. Hawaii Fire Department personnel took him to Kona Community Hospital, where he remained Friday morning in critical but stable condition.
Police arrested another tenant at the scene, 44-year-old Monte Moreau of Hōnaunau, on suspicion of attempted murder.
He is being held at the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.
