Hilo escapee case turned over to Prosecuting Attorney office

Police said Tuesday the case of a Hilo man who allegedly escaped from the Hale Nani Correctional Facility has been turned over to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Police arrested Kalaikona Fukuhara in Hilo on Sunday and taken into custody without incident on suspicion of second-degree escape and promoting prison contraband. He was returned to the custody of the Department of Public Safety and is being held at Hawaii Community Correctional Center, police said.
