A flash flood watch has been extended until 6 p.m. Sunday for Hawaii Island, according to the National Weather Service.
Unstable conditions from a strong low aloft are forecast to produce heavy showers and thunderstorms today, according to forecasters based in Honolulu. While the heavy rain is not expected to be widespread, localized intense rainfall is expected potentially leading to flash flooding in streams and urban areas.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. It does not have to be raining heavily where you are for flash flooding to occur, the service cautioned.
