Ruth Levin, a former environmental educator and interpretive ranger at Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park will explain how the active volcanoes grow to make the Big Island bigger. She will answer the questions: What brings liquid lava up from the deep to bubble and flow on the surface? Why do we have earthquakes and vog in Kona? How do scientists study our volcanoes?  She will have hands-on activities that will help schoolchildren learn about the life and breath of the powerful volcanoes under our feet.

Sponsored by Friends of the Libraries, Kona this program is free to the public. Program schedule is subject to change. Contact the library 15 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if other special accommodation is needed.
