PRESS RELEASE: Laurie Downey’s Watercolors Featured this Fall
The Living Arts Gallery's "Featured Artist" for the month of November-December is Laurie Downey. Her show of exquisite watercolor paintings on display through December, are portraits of vivid tropical flowers, and local Hawaiian scenes. Laurie is also introducing us to her forays into oil painting, which is fresh, direct and more impressionistic than her watercolors. Very interesting!
Laurie paints from the experiences of her own life, as she grew up on the beaches of southern California, then migrated to Hawaii. She has lived and studied in Europe, and holds a BA from the University of California. She has been involved in the arts since her youth, and has exhibited in shows in California in both jewelry design and painting. She divides her time between Hawaii and Dana Point California, where she is a member of the Laguna North Gallery. She has also been a member of the Living Arts Gallery in Hawi, Hawaii for the past two years.
Downey’s watercolors are precise and detailed, executed in a realistic style, often with dramatic black backgrounds. Laurie often paints from photographs that she has taken during her travels. When she’s not painting, Laurie is an avid and competitive golfer, and recently bicycled through Italy with her husband and three children, and just returned from another cycling tour, this time of Sicily with her husband.
The public is invited to come meet this fascinating artist at a reception, Saturday, November 10th, from 4 – 7 pm. Refreshments and fellowship.
