KONA PACIFIC PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL TO BREAK GROUND ON $1 MILLION CAMPUS EXPANSION

KEALAKEKUA, H.I. – Kona Pacific Public Charter School (KPPCS) in Kealakekua on Hawaii Island will break ground on a $1 million campus expansion at 1:30 PM on Tuesday May 22. The ceremony will begin with a traditional blessing by Kumu Keala Ching.

The expansion will add 6,000 square feet of classroom space to the campus, allowing the school to grow by 25% next year. KPPCS will add a second kindergarten class and will serve 230 students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

The improved facilities will provide expanded, modern classrooms in order to create an educational environment that supports the school’s mission of cultivating in young people the skills, knowledge, and values they need to reach their highest potential. Kona Pacific offers a rigorous academic program and integrates Hawaiian culture and agriculture studies into its Waldorf curriculum. The school embraces community sustainability through care and respect for the people, land and sea of Hawai‘i.

The school is currently open for applications to all grades, and will accept applications through the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year. Please call the school at (808) 322-4900 for enrollment inquiries.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Community Facility Direct Loan program has provided project lending, enabling the purchase of the 38 acre parcel where the elementary school campus is located, as well as funding for the new construction.
