This month’s selection is The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides. Addressing the ubiquitous love triangle, this is a perfectly executed character study of three college students as they leave Brown University in the early Eighties and drift uncertainly into adulthood. Taking on subjects as enormous as mental illness, classism, meaningful work, religious faith, higher education, charity, self-knowledge and the nature of relationships, The Marriage Plot asks the question: Is it sometimes better to not get what you want?
