Jeep Trip to Historic Pauahi Dairy
On Saturday, February 23, the Kona Historical Society will lead a jeep trip to historic Pauahi Dairy, established in 1884 by Henry Nicholas Greenwell and his partner, Portuguese dairyman, Manuel De Gouveia. Kona historian and great granddaughter of H.N. Greenwell, Maile Melrose, will be sharing the history of Pauahi and other Kona mauka dairies. Maile explains: “The establishment of these dairies, which once ruled the landscape, is a little known but important piece of Kona’s ranching history.” The excursion is from 8:30a.m.—4p.m. and is $70 (which includes lunch). Reservations and Society membership are required. The sign-up deadline is February 18. A 4WD vehicle is required, but participation without a 4WD is based on space availability. To reserve your spot, become a member, or for further information, please visit www.konahistorical.org or call 323-3222.
