Participants in Lyman Museum’s “The Garden as Paradise” tour on Saturday, September 29th from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. will explore a variety of private gardens in East Hawai`i, each close to nature in its unique way.

Tour goers will see that a retired professor has built his dream of a private garden that features a collection of rare hybrid day lilies as well as other variegated plants.  Among other stops, participants will visit and tour a private palm garden with a master gardener.  Tour goers will eat their provided picnic lunch in international, award-winning artist Stephen Freedman’s extensive garden, created in the midst of a jungle. Freedman will share his private gallery as well, where elegant ceramic art is on display.

Dr. Judith Kirkendall, a historian and anthropologist, and Leslie Lang, author of Exploring Historic Hilo, will lead the excursion.  Tickets are $65 for Museum members and $75 for nonmembers.  The tour provides transportation, entry to activities, lunch, and free admission to the Lyman Museum during the month following the tour.  For reservations, call Lyman Museum at 935-5021 by Wednesday, September 26.
