The Friends of the Libraries, Kona is hosting their free family Read Aloud Program, "Books are Building Blocks," from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 4th at the Kailua Kona Public Library. During this school year, we will be traveling around the world and making passports to use each month as we explore the world through reading. Join us for this entertaining and informative program to encourage family literacy.
The Read Aloud Program is offered on the first Tuesday of each month of the school year. Parents must attend the program with their children. There will be separate reading groups: Kindergarten, grades 1 to 2, 3 to 4, 5 to 6 and their parents. Each group will have a person reading aloud to them, followed by a discussion of what was read.
Registration will take place from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. in front of the library, monthly program from 5:00 to 5:30 PM, and Reading by Age Group from 5:30 to 6:00 PM. Afterward, the families will meet on the lanai for light refreshments provided by Costco, door prizes, and books. Participation is limited to seventy five participants.
We are proud to partner with Target who has awarded us a $2000 grant for the 2012 to 2013 school year. Their sponsorship helps our organization meet the needs of our community, whether it's inspiring young minds or offering unique cultural experiences at the library.
