Books Are Building Blocks
The Friends of the Libraries, Kona is hosting their free family Read Aloud Program, "Books are Building Blocks," from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 4th at the Kailua Kona Public Library. During this school year, participants will be traveling around the world and getting their “passports” stamped each month as we explore the world through reading. Join us for this entertaining and informative program to encourage family literacy. December’s guest speaker will be local TV personality, Jane Clement who coordinated the federal grant for Parents Night for Reading Literacy at Kahakai. She will share her experiences of her recent trip to our sister city in the Philippines with Mayor Kenoi as well as sharing her Filipino culture and Holiday traditions. Parents must attend the program with their children. There will be separate reading groups: Kindergarten, grades 1 to 2, 3 to 4, 5 to 6 and a Parent group. Each group will have a person reading aloud to them, followed by a discussion of what was read.
Registration will take place from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. in front of the library, monthly program from 5:00 to 5:30 PM, and Reading by Age Group from 5:30 to 6:00 PM. Afterward, the families will meet on the lanai for light refreshments, door prizes, and books. Participation is limited to seventy five participants.
