Parker School Dramatiques presents “The Madwoman of Chaillot,” a poetic satire by French dramatist Jean Giraudoux written in 1943 and first performed in 1945, as the school’s fall production.
A theater classic, this timeless, zany story follows the struggles of an eccentric woman in Paris against the straitlaced authority figures in modern society who hope to drill for oil under Paris seeking wealth and power. The countess, for whom this play is named, and her eclectic cohorts fight back to save humanity in the most unusual way. The satire lies in discovering who’s really mad, the power-hungry executives or the countess and her unusual entourage.
Performances are slated 7 p.m. today and Saturday at Parker School theater in Waimea. A Sunday matinee is slated at 2 p.m.
Parker School’s Dramatiques is the school’s after-school drama program that consists of students in grades six through 12. The program offers two community productions, one in the fall and spring each year.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and can be purchased at the door.
