St. James’ Thrift Store fundraiser to aid domestic violence victims
St. James’ Thrift Store and Boutique will hold a tea and fashion show from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at St. James’ Church, 65-1237 Kawaihae Road in Waimea. The event includes a hat contest with prizes.
Tickets are $30 with all proceeds benefiting Women’s Domestic Violence Shelter and Child and Family Services.

Korean War Veterans meets Saturday
The Korean War Veterans Association of West Hawaii Chapter 279 meets at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars meeting hall, 74-5543 Kaiwi St., Suite 185A, Kailua-Kona. Membership is open to any individual who has seen honorable service in the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard if said service was within Korea including territorial waters and airspace at any time from Sept. 3, 1945 to the present, or said service was outside of Korea June 25, 1950, to January 31, 1955. Associate members are also welcome.

Mauna Kea Quilters meets in Waimea
Mauna Kea Quilters meets from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in the meeting room of the Thelma Parker Memorial Library in Waimea.
Started in 1997, the a group of patchwork quilters enjoy sharing their love of quilting with others. The group donates quilts to raise money for worthwhile area organizations and has provided quilts to police and fire departments and North Hawaii Community Hospital for those in need. The group holds meetings on the second Saturday of each month, which include a business meeting, show and tell and time to share ideas and techniques.

Waikoloa Village Association annual meeting planned
FRIENDS of Waikoloa members gathered Friday and Saturday at Waikoloa Village Market to spread the word about the upcoming Waikoloa Village Association annual meeting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Waikoloa Elementary and Middle School.
The group is soliciting “yes” votes on a petition to limit the control of the Board of Directors and create transparent communication with community members and the Board of Directors.
According to the group, membership dues were increased this year for a total of $80,000 additional revenue to the Waikoloa Village Association. Fees for golf privileges at Waikoloa Golf Course were increased and the general manager of the association, as well as 39 employees received a 6 percent salary increase, all without the vote of the membership.

Knights of Columbus elects state officers
The Knights of Columbus jurisdiction serving Hawaii and American Samoa celebrated reaching the threshold of 2,000 members across 29 councils during its 36th annual state convention April 24 to 26 in Honolulu.
The new officers elected for the next fraternal year 2015-16 are: state deputy, Steve Lopez, Padre James Diego McFadden Council 16109; state secretary, Ted Rhoades, Our Lady of Good Counsel Council 11636; state treasurer, Steve Fredette, St. Jude Council 12733; state advocate, Robert Camilleri, Sts. Peter &Paul Council 16002; and state warden, Mike Madix, St. Jude Council 12733.
The celebration included a banquet with 173 in attendance followed by the first state family picnic held at White Plains Beach in Ewa Beach, Oahu.
In 2014, the Knights of Columbus in Hawaii donated $113,522 in cash to charity and nearly $2 million in volunteer hours.
