KAILUA-KONA — A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of a teen, accused of sexual assault, for violating conditions of bail.
Samuel Latrik is facing numerous class A felony sexual assault charges connected to the 2016 Old Kona Airport rape case. He is one of two males arrested and charged in the crime.
His co-defendant, Tyrone Sigrah, recently pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault, second-degree assault, kidnapping and second-degree robbery. The 17-year-old, who had been charged as an adult, now awaits sentencing, which is scheduled for Sept. 18.
Latrik, who was also charged as an adult, is scheduled for a jury trial on Oct. 23.
The request to revoke Latrik’s bail was filed by the Hawaii Intake Service Center on July 20 after the teen failed to check in with his social worker, a requirement of his release on bail. It was granted by 3rd Circuit Court Judge Robert D.S. Kim and a bench warrant for the teen’s arrest was issued Friday.
Latrik was arrested in January on $50,000 bail. Kim lowered the bail in February to $25,000. Part of the conditions of the teen’s release was to check in twice a month face-to-face with his social worker at Hawaii Intake Service Center and call every week on Wednesday.
According to court documents, Latrik has not reported by phone or in person to Hawaii Intake Service Center from June 27 to July 17.
While the defendant did leave a message on July 18, indicating that he was checking in, “it still does not negate the fact that he failed to report HISC over three weeks.”
Court documents indicate that messages were left for Latrik on July 10 and July 19. HISC received no returned call on July 10. However, on July 19 the defendant’s sister called the social worker back and said she was unaware that Latrik wasn’t checking in.
“The defendant has demonstrated his unwillingness to comply with the conditions of his release,” court documents state. “Therefore, it is recommended that his conditions of bail be revoked and bail be reinstated.”
Latrik was arrested and charged as a second suspect in the assault against a woman at Old Airport on Sept. 3, 2016. According to the Hawaii Police Department, two boys approached a woman, punched and sexually assaulted her. Police added the boys fled when confronted by an unidentified person.
A 17-year-old juvenile at the time of the crime, the family court judge waived jurisdiction to 3rd Circuit Court where Latrik would face charges as an adult. A Kona grand jury indicted the teen in January on three counts of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, kidnapping, second-degree robbery, first-degree terroristic threatening and sexual assault.
Why in the world is the court releasing these Kosraen gangster punks back into our community for any reason !? Has anyone bothered to take a look at Latrik’s or Sigrah’s Facebook pages ? Probably gone now . What they showed was that these are members of a very nasty Kosraen youth gang that is in every way trying to emulate mainland black gang bangers . Just take a look . These idiot judges here in Hawaii are extremely soft headed about gang types and we the public are put in danger by their ill advised tolerance .
His page is still there. And yea he still has no problem showing the world he’s a gang banger. No wonder the judge loves him so much. He’s working his way up to be a ice head. The judges favorite people. Maybe soon the judge will be posing next to him doing the gang signs. The Kim’s are screwing up our island with their insanity.
Yes, his FB page is still there and full of gang and drug references. Goes a lot to showing his character and aspirations!
A Violent Felony with only 25K bail? Why has this taken so long to hit the wire WHT?
i wonder if the judge would of lowered his bail by $25,000 if it was the judges daughter that was viciously raped.
